Employee Spotlight: Charvonne

Employee Spotlight

The Employee Spotlight this week is on Charvonne, a 2-1-1 specialist. She is among the friendly voices you hear answering the phones every day connecting callers to critical community resources.

Charvonne started at HandsOn Central Ohio as an Ohio State University volunteer in September 2005 and was hired on full time in January of 2007. She was attracted to this job because she could help those in need.

Charvonne is from Columbus, Ohio but spent a large amount of her childhood in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. She has three sons ages 3, 6 and 8. Charvonne and their father are high school sweethearts.

Charvonne loves to draw, write poetry and read, reading two to three books a week when time allows for it. She also enjoys writing full length fictional stories because, “It is nice to step out of the boundaries of everyday life and create whatever I think or dream up. It is absolutely freeing.”

The best advice given to her was, “Treat others as you would want to be treated” and “Never judge a book by its cover.”

Charvonne’s dream vacation would be to take a trip to Egypt, Rome or the Mayan Ruins. She says, “I have always been big on history and I would love to explore the areas I have researched and read so much about.”

An interesting fact about Charvonne is that she was born on Valentine’s Day and Chinese food is her favorite.

Charvonne’s favorite part of her job is helping others. When asked how it makes her feel knowing that she helps people on a daily basis, she replied, “It makes me feel great!”

Thank you Charvonne! Your great work is really appreciated here at HandsOn Central Ohio!

Get ready for next week because we will have our Spotlight on the Mid-Ohio Foodbank!
