A Time To Give Thanks

Today the Washington Post ran an article detailing the difficulties faced by food pantries in the holiday season.  http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/11/21/AR2010112104067_3.html?tid=iGoogle&sid=ST2010112200394. The article specifically addresses the needs of D.C., Maryland, and Virginia but could be applied anywhere in the country.  The growing demand for food pantry services in many locations has greatly outpaced the supply they have to provide.  Food pantries are encountering record numbers of clients coming through their doors and unfortunately many of those people have to be turned away due to lack of supplies.  Many people in these food lines are there for the first time, many never thought it would happen to them.  Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, giving thanks for all your blessings.  What better way to give thanks than to give back?  We can all take a lesion from the true origins of the holiday that seem to have been forgotten and help feed those that have no idea how they’re going to make it through the winter.  You can find several opportunities to help out this holiday season at the project calendar website http://handsoncentralohio.volunteerhub.com/Events/Browse.aspx.
