JOB TITLE: Disaster Preparedness Regional Coordinator

Full time, 4 month contract consultant

SUMMARY

To provide technical assistance to local communities in the formation of Citizen Corps Councils

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree preferably in homeland security, social work, public administration. Qualifying experience in such areas as volunteer management or disaster response is preferred. Excellent communication skills, the ability to organize, plan and implement activities and the ability to work well with members in a team environment are required. Must be an independent worker and innovative thinker. Valid Ohio driver’s license, insurance and access to motor vehicle on a daily basis are also required. Must have access to a computer, the Internet and be competent in Microsoft Office programming. Must be able to work on a flexible schedule with some weekend and evening work. Can work from home.

STATUS

This position reports directly to the Vice Presidents of 211 or Administration and Training and Volunteer Services.

3 = Do - when told

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1) Establish and maintain contact with local disaster response organizations, government agencies, such as the Emergency Management Homeland Security Agency, related to disaster, citizen groups, volunteer centers and RSVP programs in all counties in the region. (2)

2) Provide technical assistance to local organizations in the formation, development and operation of Citizen Corps Councils. Provide information to organizations and citizens regarding roles, duties and formation of Citizen Corps Councils. Share best practices from within and outside the region. Facilitate communication among Citizen Corps Members as requested. (2)

3) Work with local organizations, primarily at the county level, to identify and leverage local disaster response programs, also assist in identifying volunteer training needs. (2)

4) Provide expertise in areas such as volunteer management, assessing community volunteer needs and recruiting and retaining volunteers. (2)

5) Work with local volunteer centers, RSVP and other local government, nonprofit agencies as well as other interested agencies and groups to recruit, place, train and retain homeland security volunteers. (2)

6) Encourage the development of local/county wide public awareness and education campaigns.

7) Act as liaison for state based initiatives such as the volunteer database development and implementation. (2)

8) Work with local organizations, including health departments, to develop the Ohio Medical Reserve Corps. (2)

9) Work with local organizations to develop local Fire Corps, VIPS, Neighborhood Watch, CERT, Volunteer Reception Centers (2)

10) Conduct and assist in conducting training in the areas of volunteer management, Volunteer Reception Centers and disaster preparedness (2)

11) Assist in the development and implementation of disaster preparedness marketing plan (3)

11) Attend state and regional meetings as required. (3)
