On Thursday February 4th, 2010, FIRSTLINK staff joined Franklin County Emergency Management and Homeland Security (FCEM&HS) Director Michael Pannell and Planning Manager Jamie Stout to discuss the importance of the Somali Community understanding the proper reaction to the activation of the Outdoor Warning Sirens and Weather Radio's. Through interpretation services provided by SomaliCAN, Pannell and Stout educated the Somali Community on the proper ways to prepare and stay informed of pending severe weather.
Before the conclusion of the Somali Community Meeting, FIRSTLINK Disaster Preparedness Manager, Lee Foster discussed the role that 2-1-1 plays in keeping the Somali Community Safe. Foster spoke about the multitude of resources available for the Somali Community during a Disaster. To help in aiding this message, Foster presented two posters, one in Somali and one in English to the African Refugee Education and Cultural Services Community Center. Special thanks to SomaliCAN for the translation services provided to make these posters
