This is an interesting blog post from a very informative blogger, In Case of Emergency, Read Blog. The author is John Solomon, he is a member of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in New York City.
This is his take on recent Congressional testimony by FEMA Administrator Craig Fugute. Administrator Fugute discusses the importance of citizen preparedness and how it is the responsibility of everyone; citizen, public and private officials.

Disaster Zone is one of my personal favorite blogs. The author is Eric Holdeman, an expert in the field of Emergency Management and current author with Emergency Management Magazine.
While this article talks about the extreme heat currently taking place in the Pacific Northwest, it can be just as useful throughout the country. Understanding the area and what causes certain disasters. In the Seattle area, they know when extreme heat combines with Easterly wind, the likelihood of fires are significant. The question to take from Eric's post is, "What are factors in your area that may cause a disaster?"
