National Volunteer Week 2012
National Volunteer Week will take place from April 15, 2012 to April 21, 2012. But do you know the history behind this important celebration of volunteerism?
How did it get started?
Since the inception of National Volunteer Week the overall recurring theme has been “Celebrate People in Action” with the meaning being defined as, honoring individuals who dedicate themselves to taking action and solving problems in their communities.
It was in 1974 under the ink pen of former President Richard Nixon that the National Volunteer Week was established. National Volunteer Week has grown exponentially in scope each year drawing the support and endorsement of all subsequent U.S. presidents, governors, mayors and other respected elected officials
Why is it important to give back?
We are excited to celebrate and honor volunteers during this week. It’s important to recognize volunteers, weather it is their first time or they have been volunteering for years! It’s a time to showcase the impact your volunteers have in the community, and inspire others to be just as involved. It’s a time to actively encourage individuals to recognize the power that each of them has to make a difference. Take a look at our project calendar for a list of projects that will take place from April 15-21st.

This one is just for you. Yes! If you are Middle or High School student and are looking to get required community service hours or you just want to give back, visit our home page and click on Youth Friendly Volunteer Opportunities for a list of organizations that are on standby to assist you.
If you are looking to find a career, realize what you are passionate about, or just want to have fun; volunteering will do just the trick! We here at HandsOn Central Ohio have noticed an influx of volunteers amongst your peers and we are excited to take part in this community/global wide initiative.
Accordingly to proven studies most adults who volunteered as a youth are more likely to be more healthier, give back more money to their community, live longer, etc……..Truth be told your overall quality of life increases when you volunteer. We believe that we can change the world starting with one word; SERVICE!

Restoration Automotive
Restoration Automotive Inc. offers clients honest, quality, affordable vehicle repair and the empowerment of simple automotive education while striving to demonstrate the life-transforming love of Jesus Christ.
We value:
· integrity in our work
· automotive service provided in humility
· biblical stewardship of people's time and resources
· being intercessors who provide for people under duress
· teaching people to care for their car for the journey
Since 2008, RA has contributed nearly $1,000,000 in automotive service to over 2000 familes in Central Ohio. Having provided 25 vehicles to families in need, our team of over 180 staff and volunteers work 5 days weekly in our 7500 sq foot facility utilizing most major equipment and technologies making more than 3000 repairs. Having partnered with OSU, Capital University and HandsOn ResCare, our collaboration and strategic partnerships have allowed us to offer a 5 to 1 ratio of donor contributions maximizing our impact in our mission.
What makes RA so unique is that we’re the ONLY 501-C3 in the nation providing automotive repair service and education with an unmatched volunteer experience. Most non profits who rely on car donations use those funds for other worthy, but unrelated, social services to their mission. RA uses collaborative client relationships to leverage a proven referral network and unsurpassed car donation program that takes donated vehicles and provides DIRECTLY to pre-screened recipients who rely on transportation to provide for their families and transition from welfare to work.
Currently, RA is expanding their efforts and seeking the following strategic partnerships with individuals who feel compelled and called to serve in this direct impact endeavor:
Shop Foreman – Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings
Receptionist – Tuesday and Thursday evenings
Transport Driver – Tuesday, Wed, Friday mornings or afternoons
Interested candidates will be asked to complete the application at HandsOn Central Ohio
